New Translation of the Mass
On November 27, 2011, all Catholics in the United States attending the ordinary form of the Mass will begin to use a completely new translation of the Mass.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has a very helpful website to help you understand and learn the newly translated prayers. http://old.usccb.org/romanmissal/index.shtml To find the changes in the prayers and responses THE PEOPLE say, go to this page: http://old.usccb.org/romanmissal/samples-people.shtml To find the changes in the prayers and invocation of THE PRIEST, go to this page: http://old.usccb.org/romanmissal/samples-priest-intro.shtml For the whole the order of mass itself, go to this page: http://old.usccb.org/romanmissal/annotated-mass.pdf Liturgiam Authenticam—Instruction on Liturgical Translations from the Congregation For Divine Worship
DVD: “A New Translation for a New Roman Missal”
In anticipation of the new English translation of the Roman Missal, a new DVD featuring Rev. Msgr. James P. Moroney, Executive Secretary of the Vox Clara Committee (created by the Holy See in 2002) and other distinguished speakers addresses the background of changes and reviews several of the more important parts.
Several copies of this DVD will be available for borrowing from the parish library or office. It may also be purchased on this website: http://romanmissal.us/order.htm However, you may also VIEW THE ENTIRE CONTENTS OF THIS DVD ONLINE on this same website. Simply go to this site, http://romanmissal.us/order.htm, and scroll down to see “DVD Contents” on the right side. Then click each of the various parts indicated in red, e.g., Part 1, Part 2, etc. Music: The Sung Parts of the Mass
Many of the newly translated parts of the Mass will, as in the past, be sung by the people. However, because the words, cadence, syntax, etc. of these prayers will be changing, the tunes used in the past will often not be useable any longer, and new tunes will have to be learned.
At St. Raymond’s we will begin by learning the very sijmple but beautiful chants provided in the Roman Missal itself. To hear an audio recording of some of these Mass parts, click below.
